Malmo in Cornwall Bathroom Reveal

In my last blogpost about Malmo in Cornwall (the old Cornish stable block we have been renovating into a Scandi inspired holiday rental) I shared our ambitious plans to completely gut and redo two bathrooms in eight weeks. Here is a quick reminder of the ‘Before’ bathrooms.

As I was typing that blog post I was secretly thinking there was no way we would actually manage to do it but then we founded the rarest of all things: a builder who could start immediately, who maintained constant communication with us throughout the build (instead of ripping everything out and then ghosting us like a bad boyfriend) and finished on time. Marc, if you are reading this, I love you and your ability to grout against the clock!

So are you ready to see two amazing bathroom transformations? Lets start with the Shower Room. In its favour were great proportions and lovely windows. In the column against a rather telephone box-esque shower cubicle and floor and wall tiles in the type of beige colour favoured by Elastoplast manufacturers.

To make the most of that lovely window we decided to switch the sink from the left to right hand wall and installed microcement shelves running between the two internal walls to create slick storage. The shelves were made for us by @oakappledecor (the King and Queen of microcement on Instagram). To these we added a counter top basin and tall deck mounted tap in brushed brass from the Cross Water MPRO range.

The brushed brass is mirrored in the shower where the telephone box cubicle has been replaced by a super slimline walk in shower from the Crosswater GALLERY 10 range. For added understated luxe factor we chose subtle marble wall tiles and on the floor we have kept things really simple with a porcelain concrete effect tile from Mandarin Stone.

The end result feels instantly relaxing and sophisticated with all the calming colours coming together to create a sanctuary spa experience. There is nothing nicer than coming home from a long day at the beach padding across the underfloor heating and and stepping under the powerful warm shower!

Well there is actually one thing nicer and that is sinking into the freestanding natural stone bath of dreams in the ensuite! It is the Petit Formoso from Crosswater’s sister company Clearwater and with it’s matt finish and slimline appearance it allowed us to fit a freestanding bath into the room without it ever feeling like it dominates the space.

Added luxe factor in this room comes in the form of the freestanding brushed brass bath filler from the MPRO range. The soothing backdrop for the bath is created by zellige effect tiles from Ca Pietra from their Bazaar range. I love all of the subtly different variations in colour and the overall calm feel they create in here. If you don’t have the budget or the patience for real zellige these are a brilliant dupe.

To create continuity with the shower room we have chosen the same pale grey concrete effect tiles for the floor in here as well. There was previously a pedestal style wash basin that jutted out quite far into what was a tight space which we have switched out and replaced with a slimline wall hung Gerona basin and basin tap from the MPRO range.

Picking up the brushed brass theme, the mirror was a £25 bargain from the Habitat range at Sainsbury.

I know not everyone likes to shout about their toilets but in both bathrooms one of the changes that has had the most impact in saving space and bringing them up to date has been getting rid of the clunky close coupled loos and replaced them with slimline wall hung Glide toilets in a matt finish with beautiful brass flush plates from Crosswater. I honestly cannot recommend these loos enough - they are simple and super stylish and a game changer!

To finish off the luxury bathroom experience for our guests we have added in gorgeous hand & body wash with certified organic ingredients (including aloe vera, sweet orange, grapefruit, bergamot, coriander seed, lavender, magnolia flower, spearmint, palma rosa and ylang ylang flower) formulated for us by Join London. It was such an incredible feeling to see the bottles all made up with Malmo in Cornwall labels, the icing on the cake of a whirlwind 8 weeks of bathroom renovation. .
