Malmo in Cornwall: Bathroom Renovation Plans

Long time followers of mine will know I love a bathroom renovation.  I am still not over having to leave behind the bathroom in our old house which contained my greatest ever E Bay find – a vintage roll top bath procured for the vast sum of £25!  So I am very excited that the Malmo in Cornwall project offers the chance to update not one but two bathrooms! There is one smallish ensuite with a bath and also a large shower room to play with so right now I go to bed and wake up in the morning thinking about tile combinations!

Both Cornwall bathrooms are blessed with gorgeous original windows that flood them with light, and luckily for us no great reconfiguration of the spaces is required, just some small tweaks that will make the most of the layouts. Other than that they just need updating as they feel a bit tired and unloved - the current tiles are less luxury hotel and more cold war era Soviet leisure centre . When it comes to stylish, good quality contemporary bathroom fixtures and fittings Crosswater have always been my go to brand so I am delighted that they are partnering with me to create some Scandi luxe bathrooms for our Malmo in Cornwall guests.  The first of whom will be arriving in July so we better get our bathroom update on pronto!

The bathrooms are pretty neutral at the moment - no avocado horrors lurking - they just need updating with slightly less Soviet Leisure Centre tile selections!

The ensuite is situated to the right of generous master bedroom which has French doors which lead off down into the garden.   The ensuite itself is quite compact and the existing close coupled toilet and basin were both quite stately in proportion eating into the space.  So the close coupled loo is going (anyone else think close coupled sounds like a golf shot?!) to be replaced with a more understated slimline wall hung toilet and to save space we are also going to have a wall hung basin with a shallower projection with a deck mounted tap from the Crosswater MPRO range.   We are also going to rehang the door so it opens out instead of in to create a more spacious feel inside the bathroom.

The windows are what captured my heart as soon as stepped inside this house - both of the bathroom ones are beautiful

When it came to inspiration for the look of this room one picture in particular from my pinterest boards sprang instantly to mind – the bathroom of dreamy Australian Air BnB The Repose which has a really similar styled window to ours behind the bath.  I love the details of the wall tiled in zellige style tiles and so this is something we are hoping to mirror with our tile choices – more of which to be revealed at a later date!

Moving on to the shower room we are keeping the shower in the same position but getting rid of the dated leaking enclosure that felt a little bit like washing inside a telephone box!  In its place we will have a slimline shower tray and walk through shower tray that is going to feel super inobtrsuve in comparison as we are using slimline shower screen from the Crosswater GALLERY 10 range.  They have an amazing range of different configurations and options to choose from them but all of them have a simple slimline profile that makes them look really luxe at an affordable price.

Am so glad the previous owners left us behind their used shower pouffe :-) . Guests don’t worry we will not be offering that as a bathroom feature for your stay!

We are switching the shower valves over to the lefthand wall so you can turn the shower on before you get in without risk of a wet cold arm and the shower fittings will mirror the other bathroom in brushed brass from the Crosswater MPRO range.  The quality of finish for the price is really good if you have been hunting in vain for affordable good quality brushed brass fittings.

As in the other bathroom the close coupled look is going to be replaced with a wall hung and, the biggest change we are going to make in terms of layout is switching the basin from the left hand wall as you come in to the right hand wall under the window.  The plan is to have two shelves that will run between the walls in the window with a free standing basin sitting on top with storage baskets underneath.

We are going slightly more luxe with our wall tile choice in this room with a beautiful muted marble tile for the wall but to keep consistency with the other bathroom we will have the same floor tile in both.  These are some of the pictures that have been inspiring us when it comes to this room.

Absolutely love the brushed brass finish on the Crosswater MPRO showerhead. It looks really luxe.

Right now things are at the very messy first fix stage with the floors up and being drilled into to get pipe work in but Marc (our wonderful and patient builder) assures us that in just a couple of weeks things will be feeling very different!  So whilst we leave him to get on with situating the soil pipe we are focusing on finding gorgeous toiletries to spoil our guests with, and the accessories that will make both of these spaces feel like welcoming spa sanctuaries at the end of a long day at the beach.

Looking forward to sharing some more update pictures with you soon over on @malmo_ in_cornwall. Hopefully they will be of the slightly prettier variety featuring less exposed U Bends and more zellige tiles!
